>>> Super Mario 64

The Story

Mario awakes one morning to find the post scattered across the floor and notices one with the princess' royal stamp on it. He opened it and the letter read "Mario, please come to the castle, I've baked a cake for you". "Wow, an invitation from Peach!" Mario said loudly as he started getting ready to go to the castle.

As he got there, he realized it was a little on the quiet side. "Hmm, something's not quite right. It's too quiet." Mario thought to himself. He walked into the castle and heard a frighteningly dark voice bellow "No one's home! Now Scram! Bwa, ha, ha!". Mario knew it was Bowser Straight away. He walked around and in one of the rooms, he noticed a strange painting with the voice of someone calling coming from it. He examined it more and decided it was a good idea to jump in. This is where your adventure begins!

The Game

The game has some excellent elements. Firstly, it was the first 3D Mario game, and it was also the first game to play on the system, and consequently, an N64 control deck, with Mario 64, was loaned to the BBC and the game was showcased in their British programme 'Blue Peter'. The game was a huge jump from the 'sprite' based SNES to the N64's 3D 'character models'. It gave gamers a whole new way to look at Mario, and explore the world he resides in. It triggered off a mass of new games with increased possibilities and was later re-released as a Nintendo DS title under the name of 'Mario 64 DS' and star's Yoshi. See the change? It's a good one too.
